Get free blood sugar and blood pressure checks at health centres, medical districts, shopping malls and other sites across Dubai and the northern emirates, as the Ministry of Health and Prevention (Mohap) celebrates World Health Day. You can also have your body mass index (BMI) evaluated at these screening spots.
Besides the medical examinations, the ministry is also organising educational activities and other events to mark the International Day of Health.
Dr Hussein Abdel Rahman Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for Health Clinics and Centres, said: "This comes as part of Mohap's strategy to provide comprehensive and integrated healthcare services in innovative and sustainable ways, ensuring the society's prevention from diseases, in accordance with the National Agenda Indicators 2021."
The hospitals of the ministry, including Al Kuwait Hospital, Sharjah, Al Zaid, Qasimi, Umm Al Quwain and Kalba hospitals, are organising awareness drives, in addition to medical examinations.
Al Qassimi Hospital for Women and Children, on the other hand, is conducting sports activities for its staff, while Al Kuwait Hospital, Dubai, is set to hold an health events and check-ups at the Care and Rehabilitation Centre for People of Determination.
Rand said the line-up of programmes, activities and free medical examinations all aim to raise residents' awareness of the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle and getting regular check-ups. Such preventive measures are key in keeping cardiovascular diseases' risk factors - such as obesity, hypertension and diabetes - at bay, he added.
Mohap's World Health Day initiatives were also put together to reinforce the 'universal health coverage' message that the occasion seeks to spread across the world.
The World Health Organisation is calling on world leaders to live up to the pledges they made when they agreed to the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015, and commit to concrete steps to advance the health of all people. This means ensuring that everyone, everywhere can access essential, quality health services.
