THEY’RE THE KIND of performance act that will leave you seeing double.
If you think internationally acclaimed dance duo Les Twins are just some sort of novelty, you’ve obviously never seen them on stage together.
Taking over the VIP Room in Dubai last weekend, French twin brothers Larry and Laurent Bourgeois gave crowds a taste of their talents that have made them two of the hottest commodities in the choreography industry.
The pair have performed with the likes of Beyoncé and Jay Z, made guest appearances on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and have toured with the Cirque du Soleil Michael Jackson Immortal World Tour that recently had a run in Dubai.
We caught up with the incredible duo for a quick chat about their rise to fame and passion for dance.
How much does your unique sibling connection help when developing choreography?
We definitely have a particular connection when we dance because we are able to anticipate each others moves. It’s difficult to explain but even when we practice, we come up with some very crazy ideas at the same moment - it’s probably what they call “twins syndrome”.
Does it sometimes feel as though you’re dancing in front of a mirror?
No, because although we share many ideas, we are different from each other and our differences complement each other.
With no formal dance training, how did you develop your style?
We started out by dancing, singing and jumping all around the house when we were kids. We would entertain our mother and I guess you could say she was our inspiration. However, growing up we idolised Michael Jackson from the way he could sing, dance and move. He was, and still is, an inspiration to us.
How important was your participation in Incroyable Talent (French version of ‘Got Talent’) to the worldwide recognition you enjoy today?
Without a doubt, it was a major step in our career. However, we were already known in France for a long time before that as we had been dancing and participating in different contests for more than a decade. But thanks to this particular show and the influence of the Internet, celebrities like Beyoncé noticed us and for that we are grateful as it was the major stepping stone to international recognition.
What projects and artists will you be working with this year?
This is a big surprise and all we can say is wait, watch and see. We are only at the beginning of our careers.
What has been your most memorable performance so far?
We have so many that it’s hard to choose, but touring with Beyonce was intense yet exciting at the same time. Each show we perform is different and we love that. The most important thing for us is to feel the love and energy of the crowd we are performing in front of in order to give them our very best.
