Sharjah is all set to host the internationally acclaimed musical genius Yanni on November 6 at Al Majaz Amphitheatre in the heart of Khalid Lagoon.
The eagerly awaited concert by the highly accomplished Greek musician and composer is inspired by Al Majaz Amphitheatre's efforts to advance excellence and innovation in the cultural, artistic and tourism spheres in Sharjah at a time when the Emirate is being celebrated as the Capital of Arab Tourism for 2015 by the Arab League.
To mark the crowning of Sharjah as the Arab Tourism Capital, Al Majaz Amphitheatre is looking forward to hosting a wide array of art and cultural events and popular international musical performances and concerts over the next few months in order to shine the light on Sharjah's growing presence on the global art and cultural map.
Shaikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Centre (SMC), said the concert, Rhythms of Peace, heralds Al Majaz Amphitheatre's role as de facto destination and host of world-class concerts, artistic performances and cultural events in the UAE and the region. He emphasised that Al Majaz Amphitheatre is poised to unveil many more such high-profile world-class projects and events in the months and years ahead.
Al Majaz Amphitheatre seeks to encourage an international music culture in Sharjah and offer connoisseurs of music in the Emirate an opportunity to enjoy a live performance by Yanni, who is known for his universal message of peace, tolerance and rejection of all forms of discrimination in conformity with the true Arab and Islamic values and teachings.
Shaikh Sultan said: "Sharjah has always celebrated and fostered an understanding of art, culture and literature, and we once again look forward to encouraging a new renaissance of music and culture by attracting the most accomplished artists and popular musicians from around the world."
Al Majaz Amphitheatre is one of the most important projects launched by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to celebrate the Emirate's selection as the Islamic Culture Capital 2014. The first of its kind in the region, it was established as an open, Roman colosseum-style theatre at the specifically created Al Majaz Island in the heart of Khalid Lagoon in Sharjah. The project, supervised by SMC, cost around Dh140 million.
The tickets for Yanni's historic Al Majaz Amphitheatre concert are available through Ticketmaster, www.ticketmaster.ae, and in selected outlets of Jacky's Electronics and Carrefour. Tickets can also be booked by calling on 80086823.
