The delivery boys pedal their way day and night in the scorching heat, cold or rain delivering groceries to our neighbourhoods to make a living.

They even risk their lives often while delivering groceries to flats located on busy streets. With no days off, they work almost 12 – 18 hours a day.

These are the voiceless people, who do not demand anything other than some care and kindness from their employers. Many are prone to exploitation and are afraid to speak about their plight, due to fear or losing jobs. Most of them are sole bread winners in their families.

Waiters working for restaurants and cafeterias also have the same story to tell. They also work for long hours with no overtime, miserable accommodation, and no weekly day off. It is high time that the Indian community takes up these issues and approaches the authorities, to find a solution on humanitarian grounds. Especially, it would be ideal during the Holy Month of Ramadan that these hapless people’s voices are heard and something good happens.
