I read the news about Lucy (Tail-chopped dog is seeking a home, KT July 9) with great pain. I cannot imagine how someone can harm a dog, or any animal for that matter. I have heard that the number of stray animals in the UAE increases during summer and that this happens because families going on vacation just let their pets out of their homes as there is nobody to take care of them. This is very unfortunate. I feel if the family cannot take responsibility for looking after a pet it should not attempt to have a pet in the first place.
