Docked cruise ships, a peek into port activities, peppy music, loads of food trucks and play areas for kids - Marsa Mina, the new open-air waterfront lifestyle destination inaugurated by Abu Dhabi Ports offers all this and more sights, spaces and recreational facilities.
This project is one of the first steps to start the transformation of Al Mina area into a leisure and entertainment destination for visitors and residents. It was last year that redevelopment works started in Al Mina area. Large-scale works ongoing in the area and the 1,163-metre-long mural art around the perimeter of Zayed Port suggest more attractions and facilities are set to pop up in the historic area in future.
Set up right in front of Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal at Zayed Port, Marsa Mina will be first introduction to Abu Dhabi for ship visitors. Ammar Al Shaiba, Port Director, Mina Zayed, Abu Dhabi Ports, told Khaleej Times Marsa Mina combines concepts of retail, dine outs, entertainment aspects with sustainability at the heart of it. "This destination by Abu Dhabi Ports in collaboration with Danas Business Consultancy will serve the community and visitors from cruise ships. There is range of activities here for families and friends to enjoy. There are play zones, restaurants, coffee shops and facilities. Shops have been modified by recycling used containers. Also the art work you see around is done by us. We want to keep with the theme of maritime industry. This is also an opportunity for people to see what's happening inside a port."
Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Abu Dhabi Ports Group, CEO, noted Marsa Mina also promotes entrepreneurial initiatives by providing small and medium-sized home-grown projects the opportunity to develop and promote their businesses. "This project reflects our commitment to supporting the economy diversification in line with the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030."
Abdul Jalil Abdullah Al Fahim, Danas Business Consultancy, CEO, pointed out Marsa Mina sets a platform for people of determination to showcase their arts and crafts. There is a container with shops has works by Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination.
"We are delighted to provide people of determination with an opportunity to engage with the community through a dedicated retail space, in collaboration with People of Determination care centres."
Marsa Mina is well connected by two public transport buses. While bus number 9 plies till Marina Mall, number 44 runs till Armed Forces Officers Club at the other end of the city.
