During his visit, the Minister of Economy was informed about the construction of 30 factories, as well as the building of open storage lands, warehouses, logistics facilities and infrastructure work across the destination.

“The UAE is committed to strengthening the industrial sector and further establish the country in the global industrial map. This requires concerted efforts and an integrated approach, which will enhance our competitiveness internationally,” said Al Mansouri.

The minister headed a senior delegation which included Jamal Lootah, CEO of Industrial Sector, and Saeed Al Rukon, Industrial Director.

The delegation was received by Khalid Al Malik, Chief Executive Officer of Tatweer. Rashed Al Ansari, Vice-President of Dubai Industrial City, and heads of other departments. He said that the Ministry of Economy will extend all support to the industrial sector and coordinate with all concerned organisations to promote it world-wide.

Al Mansouri also stressed the importance of training programmes in enhancing the culture of innovation in industries. He said these programmes are essential to strengthen the industrial sector and will contribute to enhance its competency.

The high-ranking ministerial tour of Dubai Industrial City came as part of an Memoradum of Understanding signed in 2008 for the two entities to work together for the provision of specialised industrial training for UAE nationals by the Dubai Industrial Academy (DIA), operating under Dubai Industrial City, to help increase the numbers of nationals working in the industrial sector.

Khalid Al Malik said that the visit of the UAE Minister of Economy is a testimony of the role the destination plays in supporting the industrial sector in the country, as well as in increasing the cooperation between both entities through the exchange of expertise and sharing of knowledge on various industrial issues of interest such as manufacturing, industrial marketing, quality and industrial standards.

Rashed Al Ansari added that the industrial hub has already commissioned several factories and industrial facilities such as 2.8 million square feet of open storage yards, three million square feet of warehouses in addition to 64 showrooms, and four office buildings. The city is also witnessing the construction of 30 manufacturing facilities, at a cost of Dh1 billion that are due to be operational by end of 2010. business@khaleejtimes.com
