The opening of the new Mercedes-Benz showroom and service centre, located in the Mussafah district of Abu Dhabi, coincided with the unveiling of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Designed and created to accommodate the company’s growing customer base, the new Dh200 million facility features a 4,382-square metre showroom, a 20,873-square metre service centre with over 250 work-bays, 7,196-square metre area for spare parts, a multi-storey parking lot and staff accommodation, enough space to fit in 50 airbuses, said Rashed Abdul Jalil Al Fahim, Managing Director of Al Fahim Group, which owns Emirates Motor Company.

It is the world’s largest such facility after Mercedes- Benz showrooms in Berlin and Munich in Germany. “We built this facility because we needed it,” Al Fahim told Khaleej Times.

Apart from other facilities it has a play area for children, a mini theatre, and coffee shop and pick drop facility for customers to and from the capital city.

The managing director said by building this facility, the company has showed its confidence in the growing economy of Abu Dhabi, which is still resilient despite the global economic crisis.

He said that with the continuation of its development projects, the emirate has given a reassuring message to stakeholders which will boost the economic growth. The company sold 881 cars in the first quarter of the year 15 per cent down from the same period last year, though it was higher against 2007’s sales.

Dr Joachim Schmidt, President & CEO of Daimler Central/Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia, Frank Bernthaler, Director of Sales & Marketing for Mercedes-Benz Cars Middle East & Levant, Saeed Abdul Jalil Al Fahim, Chairman of Al Fahim Group, were among those attended the ceremony.
