The equipment will be used to augment the output at the Asab and Sahil fields of ADCO so that they will be able to achieve their production targets, GE Oil and Gas said in a statement.
The Asab field development is located about 220 kilometres south of Abu Dhabi. It was discovered in 1965 and is ADCO’s second biggest oilfield. The Sahil field is located southeast of Abu Dhabi, also known as the Murban zone, and was discovered in 1967.
Owned 60 per cent by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and 40 per cent by Shell, Total, BP, ExxonMobil and Partex, ADCO is targeting to increase its production to 1.8 million barrels per day by 2016. Presently ADCO’s production level is nearly 1.5 million bpd. The output increase is part of a wider plan for the UAE to boost crude capacity to 3.5 million bpd, up from 2.8 million bpd, ADCO sources said.
The consortium will offer a broad technology package that meets the oil production and recovery requirements of the Asab and Sahil projects.
“By leveraging our experience in working with extremely resistant and advanced technology materials for compressor components, we are able to provide equipment capable of handling the highly sour and corrosive gas compositions of these fields,” said Joe Mastrangelo, vice-president, turbo-machinery for GE Oil and Gas. “Our expertise in gas lifts and gas injection applications gives ADCO the confidence that our products can meet the challenges of these projects.”
ABB, with headquarters in Switzerland, is supplying items like motors, transformers and converters for the projects. GE Oil and Gas, with extensive operations in Europe and the United States, is focused on manufacturing equipment and technology for refineries.
