The facility recently completed a major refurbishment to enhance its operations and has increased its capacity for both passengers and cargo by 50 per cent. It now has the capacity to handle five million passengers annually.

“Flydubai’s entrance will be clearly branded with the flydubai colourful branding and is the first entrance of the T2 building,” says Osama Attallah the Head of Terminal 2.

The overall makeover extended the terminal’s check-in and boarding facilities, revitalised the interior and exterior decor and has increased the dining options thus giving the customers an enhanced travelling experience. Queuing time has speeded up for departing passengers with the extension of the check-in area where counters have increased from 22 to 36.

“The reason that Terminal 2 is considered user-friendly is that it has very easy access to and from a huge car park catering to approximately 1,040 vehicles with a very short curb to seat distance. You don’t have to walk a huge distance to get to departures or the duty free, and the bus rides to and from the terminal and the plane are quite short. The fact that it is located on only one floor makes it a preference amongst passengers with special needs,” says Attallah.

“Terminal 2 has seen tremendous growth over the past decade of its operation, and the continued growth is inevitable. At present 63 airlines operate out of Terminal 2 with 25 scheduled airlines. This make-over has given a fantastic boost to the facility, a new lease of life and a freshness that’s sure to give us a thumbs-up in terms of customer satisfaction and comfort. I am confident this will continue to attract more airlines” said Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports.

The terminal’s facilities and services will be further enhanced in the next phase of the refurbishment project. The one-level Terminal 2, with its central location on the north side of Dubai International, will ultimately be served by a new transport infrastructure on Al Ittihad and Al Twar Roads, which will provide better approach routes and access.
