TV sets in the 65-inch-and-above category posted the biggest increase with 396 per cent, while those in the 80-inch-and-above vertical grew four-fold, GfK data showed, comparing sales figures from the fourth quarters of 2012 and 2013.

Vinood Nair, general manager of Samsung Gulf Electronics’ TV Business, said that while this rate of growth is “remarkable, but it’s not surprising”.

“Thanks to advancements in HD technology, consumers can get a cinema-style experience at home—that is, a wider field of view and a fantastic sonic experience—at home, and they can get it at more attractive prices than they could five, or even two years ago,” he said.

“At the same time, high-definition programming is fast becoming the standard for broadcasters, which means that programming on large-panel TVs is as crystal-clear as it was always meant to be. In this kind of environment, consumers don’t have to make sacrifices to get a large, dynamic display into their homes. These numbers show that they’re taking advantage of that.”

Samsung — in anticipation of the growing demand for large-panel displays — has developed a suite of UHD TVs that has truly catapulted home viewing experience leaps and bounds in terms of picture quality, offering an image one step closer to reality. With four times the resolution of the older HD generation of TVs, the Samsung UHD TV is available in 55-, 65- and now 85-inch models across all retail stores in the UAE.
