Anas Khan’s all-round performance helped Manipal University snatch a 33-run win over holders American University of Sharjah (AUS) in a crucial low-scoring Group A clash between the two powerhouses of UAE university cricket.
Expecations were high as the two teams clashed in group stage match of the sixth edition of the DCC recognised Maxtalent Global Pride Cup 2012 played at the Fairgrounds Oval located in Dubai Men’s College.
Manipal University, opting to bat first, lost In-form batsman skipper Saurabh Gir (11) and Mohammed Hamid (5). Syed Yaseen (16) and Arif Ali (13) steadied the innings before Anas Khan scored a breezy 33 off 28 balls helped Manipal post 107 in 20 overs.
AUS’s Mohsin Imran picked up two wickets for 10 runs and Musaab Khalid took three wickets for 23. Chasing what looked an easy target, the AUS batsmen were struggling with three top bastmen out wiht just 18 runs on board in 6 overs. Arif Ali, the wrecker in chief with three wickets for 13 runs. Anas, after his exceelnt batting, returned to haunt the AUS batting as he bagged two wickets for 16 runs.
AUS skipper Shahzada Haris was the lone warrior, scoring 24 in 23 balls, but his efforts went in vain as he did not receive any kind of support from his teammates.
