OCA Ventures, a leading US technology venture capital firm, which is exploring opportunities in the UAE, said on Monday that it would be seeking to bridge the gap between US innovation and commercial opportunities in UAE.
“The GCC region has ample capital for established companies, but fewer opportunities for entrepreneurs to attract seed equity capital to launch new enterprises, particularly in core technology and software sectors,” said Biju Kulathakal, Venture Partner at OCA Ventures.
“The UAE is an interesting region to develop companies because it is a regional hub. About one-third of the world’s population lives within four hours of Dubai. The US has always been a great source of innovation,” said Kulathakal. “We see emerging opportunities in the GCC region and are exploring options here,” he said.
Kulathakal, a serial entrepreneur and active angel investor, was an early investor and partner at GetAMovie which was later sold to McDonald’s and is now Redbox, one of the largest movie rental companies in the US.
