Since the launch of the UAE's amnesty scheme, 4,733 illegal residents have obtained the six-month job-seeker visa at the Al Ain immigration centre. The job-seeker visa enables applicants to stay in the country for six months. During this period, they can search for jobs through the virtual labour market system.
However, they need to exit the country if they don't find a job within this period.
The Federal Authority of Identity and Citizenship has called on all visa violators to make use of the amnesty scheme that enters its final month next week. The scheme, which was launched on August 1, ends on October 31.
"The current period is a golden chance for all people wanting to leave the country and return to their homelands. The procedures have been streamlined and simplified," said Brigadier Saeed Rakkan Al Rasheidi, acting director-general of foreigners and ports affairs at the Federal Authority of Identity and Citizenship (FAIC).
If an illegal fails to rectify his/her status during this period, he/she could be fined for the entire period of the violation, he warned.
