Motorists in Dubai will be able to renew their vehicle registrations only through online channels from March 22, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed. The authority said that owners are exempted from vehicle inspection, fine payment and traffic black points for the next three months.
On Saturday, a resident shared on Twitter a Khaleej Times report about the recent Ministry of Interior (MoI) announcement that motorists across the country would be able to get their vehicle registration renewed without paying the fines accrued or getting the vehicle tested. The resident tagged the RTA and asked: "@rta_dubai, can you confirm the news from @khaleejtimes please? how can I renew online without a test?"
Confirming the news, the RTA responded: "As of Sunday March 22, the RTA will be complying with the decision and vehicle registration renewal will only be available through online channels."
Residents can complete the renewal process through the RTA website (http://rta.ae ) and mobile apps RTA Dubai and Dubai Drive.
The Abu Dhabi Police had also tweeted on March 20, that they would be implementing the decision.
The Ministry of Interior on Thursday said the decision is part of the country's preventive measures to protect customers from Covid-19. "Customers may benefit from this measure without the need to pay traffic fines, perform vehicle inspection or risk confiscation or traffic points," the ministry had tweeted.
