Professional boxing returns to Dubai when the second edition of 'The Fight' takes place at Ahdaaf Sports Club in Al Quoz on Friday November 18.
Held under the auspices of Thailand-based PBC (Professional Boxing Commision) International, the six-card event also features an amateur bout between Emirati boxer Majid Al Naqbi and Henry Ssendi from Uganda.
Majid, a 20-year-old southpaw who has three wins under his belt in his fledgling career, will be up against a battle-seasoned opponent who has a record of 45 wins in 64 fights in the 64kg weight class.
"I have been boxing for the past one and half years training at Round 10 Boxing Club under Voirel Morovan and hope to represent UAE," said Majid after weigh-in held on Thursday at a hotel in Dubai.
The Fight is a result of a convergence of interests between former UAE boxer Hamad Bin Hadher, founder of R10 boxing gym Ahmed A. Seddiqi and the owner of Ahdaaf Sports Club Yousuf Al Hashmi.
Gates open at 6pm for the evening of boxing entertainment with tickets priced at Dh100.
Among the five pro bouts of the evening will be a 10-round duel in the 55.33kg super bantamweight class between Filipino Larry Abarra and Isaac Netty of Ghana.
Kenyan Nicholas Mwangi takes on Afghan Azizi Zafar in the 63.5 super lightweight category while former Irish boxer and 'World Golden Gloves' champion Rohan Date faces Ghana's Stephen Okine in the 69kg super welterweight class to be contested over four rounds.
Nigerian Lasisi Aliu takes on Hungary's Dodu Gyula in the 53.52kg bantamweight (six-round) category while Uganda's Deo Kizito faces Russian Evgenii Vazim in an eight-round lightweight bout dubbed as the 'main event'.
