Indian record label becomes most watched YouTube channel

They will eclipse 5-year-king PewDiePie as the most subscribed channel.

An Indian record label is set to become YouTube's most subscribed channel in the world. It beats famous musical personalities such as Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran by a long shot.
According to The New York Times, T-Series, an Indian music label and film production company, is set to eclipse PewDiePie as the most subscribed channel on YouTube. PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, has held on to the most subscribed crown for five years. He is colloquially known as the "King of YouTube." As of 6.45pm UAE time on Thursday, T-Series had 70.144 million subscribers, while PewDiePie had 70.516 million subscribers.
Videos posted by T-Series have been seen over 53 billion times, and the channel gains over 100,000 subscribers on a daily basis, and looks all set to take the crown from PewDiePie following a rapid growth in online Indian viewer base.
The spike in growth is owed to India's leaps and bounds in developing Internet access. In 2016, Reliance Industries shelled out $35 billion to launch India's first 4G network, the NYT report added. With the move, many Indians were able to get free calls and data access for very cheap prices. This was coupled with the affordability of smartphones which ensured that many Indians, even those in faraway villages would be able to watch their idols on the internet.
T-Series first started posting trailers and music videos from its library in late 2010. While those videos received meagre numbers, the channel now enjoys 6.5 million views on average for its videos.
Apart from their primary channel, T-Series also has 28 other channels targeted towards different parts of India.
