As many as 98,000 house owners have registered for the installation of smart protection systems that will be linked to the operations room of the Dubai Civil Defence, according to a senior official at the department.
The civil defence department had a target of linking 100,000 villas to its operations room, as per the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to ensure smart protection systems are in place at all houses of the UAE citizens.
Colonel Ali Hassan Al Mutawa, assistant general manager of smart services at the Dubai Civil Defence, said there is a strong sense of safety along with the awareness about preventive measures within the society. "The response to the call from the civil defence to install fire safety devices and link it with the operations room exceeded expectations. This is a proof that community members are aware of the need to take precautionary measures to ensure safety."
The civil defence will complete the installation of the fire preventive devices within three years, while linking houses with the operations room will take up to five years, according to Col Al Mutawa. "The installation of the smart alarm system takes 24 hours and teams are being formed for the installation of the same. The smart dashboard, installed at the entrance of houses, will include sensors connected to the operations room to send automated signals in case of any mishap."
Installation of fire safety systems will be a must in all houses from 2019, said Col Al Mutawa, stressing that it will reduce losses from fire accidents. "If fire alerts are received as soon as possible, firefighters can respond faster and lessen human and material losses. Also, it is vital to ensure fire extinguishers are in place and ready for use.
