Ensure proper hygiene in the tanks storing water used in homes for drinking and other purposes and clean them regularly, the Abu Dhabi Municipality has told residents and landlords.
The officials underlined that it is important to disinfect water tanks and clean them at least once in six months.
The first phase of the inspection campaign for water tanks was recently launched by the civic body. It targeted old residential buildings. The aim was to review the hygiene and safety standards of these tanks, examine their lids and ensure that they are properly covered. The officials also checked the tanks for their periodic cleaning and disinfection.
Inspectors measured the quality of water in the reservoirs and sensitised people about the requirements for tank cleanliness.
Dr Saeed Qarwash Al Rumaithi, director of Public Health Department at Abu Dhabi Municipality, said during the campaign, municipal inspectors used field portable water inspection devices provided for this purpose to analyse the quality of water in different homes.
"The campaign comes as part of the municipality's commitment to raise the standard of quality of life for the Abu Dhabi community and ensure that health facilities are clean and free of any pollutant that may affect the health and safety of the people," pointed out Al Rumaithi.
He added that after the completion of the first phase, the officials will carry out the second phase that will cover all residential buildings within the city of Abu Dhabi.
