Abu Dhabi - Contact numbers of relevant authorities have been provided to the security guards so they can report suspected cases.
The Abu Dhabi City Municipality issued the order on Saturday after handing out 200 thermal scanners to security guards at buildings in Al Dana area of downtown Abu Dhabi.
Municipal officials said they also gave out posters printed in Arabic, English, Urdu, Filipino and Chinese, detailing Covid-19 precautionary measures and the symptoms of the virus so as to stymie its spread in the community.
Contact numbers of relevant authorities have been provided to the security guards in each building so they can report those building visitors and residents who show symptoms or suspected cases of Covid-19.
"The aim is to educate building security guards about the precautionary measures and guidelines issued by the authorities for the prevention and reduction of the spread of the coronavirus," the municipality said in a statement.
"We would like to protect the community and keep them free and safe from the Covid-19 by detecting those entering into residential buildings so they don't spread the virus."
Authorities have urged the public to always maintain proper hygiene in their homes and workplaces.
People were also reminded about the need to adhere to the Covid-19 precautionary measures put in place by health authorities, including staying at home, maintaining physical distancing when in public places, wearing face masks, washing hands regularly and avoiding gatherings.
