Sunday was all about the much-anticipated Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) results, but it was Dubai's Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) students that were celebrating their impressive pass rates on Monday.
Building on its history as the oldest ICSE school in Dubai, students from Gems Modern Academy received outstanding scores in the Indian School Certificate (ISC) and ICSE examinations this year.
Out of the 145 students who appeared for the ISC (Grade 12) exam, 20 per cent of students scored above 95 per cent, 55.9 per cent scored above 90 per cent and 100 per cent recorded an aggregate of above 60 per cent.
Atharva Pulujkar and Soumil Banerjee topped the Science stream at their school with a staggering score of 99 per cent. And in the Commerce stream, Lavanya Hero Bhatia came out on top of her batch with 96.2 per cent.
Topping her class in the Humanities stream was Gayathri Pushpanadh, who secured 94.5 per cent, and 15 students scored a perfect score of 100 in Mathematics in ISC.
Nargish Khambatta, Principal and CEO of Gems Modern Academy, and Convener of the ICSE and ISC examinations, Dubai, said: "It is heartening to note that our toppers are also all-rounders, finding the right balance between their focus on academics and their extra-curricular pursuits. Our students have lived up to the high expectations their teachers had of them. We are particularly pleased with our ISC batch - our largest cohort and yet they have managed to exceed past records. Congratulations to our students, parents and teachers."
Out of the 225 students who appeared for the ICSE (Grade 10) exam, 9.8 per cent of students scored above 95 per cent, 41.8 per cent of the students scored above 90 per cent and 100 per cent of students recorded an aggregate of above 60 per cent.
Adiba Ejaz was the school topper with a percentage of 98.8 per cent, with nine students scoring a perfect score of 100 in Mathematics; and six scoring 100 in Computer Application in ICSE.
Based on their predicted marks, students of Gems Modern have received admission into prestigious universities like UC Berkley, London School of Economics, Stanford University, Imperial College London, UCLA, University of Michigan, and Indiana University, among others.
And for Sanchit Kapoor, who Khaleej Times interviewed just last month, he has been accepted into UC Berkley and has been accorded the Regents' and Chancellor's Scholarship, while Swayam Parida has been accepted into Stanford this year.
The school's IB cohort completed their examinations last week with results expected on July 5.
