An eight-year-old Syrian girl died after falling from an eighth-floor apartment in the Al Tawoun area of Sharjah, according to Sharjah Police.
Police noted that the girl managed to reach an apartment window using a piece of furniture. Her mother was busy carrying out household chores at the time.
Once notified of the incident, police patrols and paramedics rushed to the scene, but when they arrived the girl was already dead. The body was transferred to Al Qasimi Hospital and then to the forensic laboratory for an autopsy. Police are currently questioning the parents to ascertain whether there was any negligence on their part.
Police have urged parents to be vigilant about their children's activities.

"Parents should secure all windows and balconies, and remove any objects that children can climb and open windows," said a police officer.
In 2015, there were seven cases of children dying after falling from high-rises. This is the second case reported in 2016, following the death of a Pakistani girl who fell from a third floor window in January. A top official noted that these frequent and tragic incidents "leave a painful and unfortunate impact on the lives of many families."
Despite many awareness campaigns and repeated warnings from authorities, such incidents continue to take place, he said, which suggests that "some parents  don't learn a lesson from such advice and guidance, and insist on repeating the mistakes committed by other parents which led to their children's deaths."He stressed that a lack of safety measures inside homes is the main problem facing parents and their children.
