Etihad started its services to Bangkok in April, 2004, with four flights a week, which increased to a daily flight late last year.

The world's leading new airline currently offers 10 flights a week between the two capital cities, which will increase to 14 a week from June.

Underlining the importance of the popular route, the UAE's national airline also announced that it will operate its new purpose-built Boeing 777-300ER (extended range) aircraft between Abu Dhabi and Bangkok.

"Etihad is delighted to be expanding its operations between the UAE and Thailand, and further enhancing the friendly ties between these two regions. The Boeing 777-30ER will allow our guests to relax on-board and enjoy Etihad's hospitality on this long haul route," said Dr Shaikh Ahmed bin Saif Al Nahyan, Chairman of Etihad Airways.

There is demand for this service from both leisure and commercial sectors, not just between the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region, but throughout Etihad's key global markets.

"Flying with Etihad to Bangkok emphasises our growth as an international airline, because many of our guests to Thailand will be starting their journeys from our European destination cities such as London, Munich or Paris. Abu Dhabi is therefore building on its reputation as a hub linking the west and the east," added Dr Shaikh Ahmed Bin Saif Al Nahyan.

Etihad Airways operates five Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on some of its busiest routes, including its services to London (Gatwick), Beirut, Cairo, Johannesburg and Riyadh.
