The first in the annual series of the Fazza Championship for Falconry begins today, in the younger falcons category known as Faroukh.
This competition category was first launched last year and attracted a large number of UAE falconers. More than 2,500 falconers have registered so far this season.
Souad Ibrahim Darwish, Director of Championships at the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Centre, said: "Introducing smart technology is crucial to facilitating the registration process and better managing the Fazza Championship. We have managed to create a unique model in time-keeping, matching international standards. We have also increased the number of radars at the finish line and developed smart rings containing a microchip to be fitted onto the falcons' legs."
Besides, this year the area is more spacious and fitted with 150 TV screens for falconers and guests to watch the competitions live. The tent also includes a "play area" for children and special stands to exhibit accessories for falcons.
Well-trained falcons are geared to defy the winds and set world records. Prizes this season range from luxury cars for the first three places to cash rewards from the fourth place onwards.
