Globally, food trucks have been around for ages. They got a much later start in UAE, but then this is a young country. In the last 18 months or so, the trend has caught on here. Food trucks are parked all over Dubai. They've been around at events such as Modhesh World, ComicCon, and Hangry Hangar at Warehouse 4 in Al Quoz.
MEALS ON WHEELS: There are at least a dozen food trucks around Dubai with food actually worth eating. Head to Emirates Golf Course on Saturday (4pm-11pm) to get a taste of over a dozen different cuisines, courtesy more than 15 trucks parked there.
Or you could head to Salt at Kite Beach. They do good burgers and milkshakes. A chicken cheetos burger is for Dh40, vanilla shakes for Dh25. There's also Melt parked outside JA Ocean View Hotel offerring ice lollies and frozen yoghurts. Founded by two Dubai mums who're making healthy alternatives available to Dubai folks, Melt's frozen yoghurt is for Dh20 and fat-free. Their Dh 15 ice-lollies have no added preservatives. Moti Roti is another truck - in Al Quoz - that offers health food.
Fans of Indian food might be interested to know you can build your own roti wrap here. Or indulge in a chicken tikkin' Punjabi pizza for Dh35. If travelling around Dubai for one food truck is too much, then grab your friends and head for Last Exit. Opened in August, Last Exit is a food truck park that has 12 food trucks and is designed to look like the 1950s.
Featuring truck tyres, vintage posters and cycle chains, this park is open 24/7 so you can visit any time to stretch your legs and grab a cup of coffee. If you want to discover dishes from more than 15 trucks - oh and GObai is here, we really like their burgers!- head to Emirates Golf Club.
The Food Truck JAM season 2 is on this weekend, and carries on till April 2017. Every Saturday from 4pm to 11pm. Take a cab or the metro to Nakheel because parking is a nightmare.
