Former Khaleej Times staff member Ibrahim Moosa Patel, fondly called Chacha Patel, passed away in his hometown of Mumbai on June 11.
Chacha worked in the editorial department as an office boy from February 1980 to June 1998.
Former colleagues remembered Chacha as a diligent worker and a kind-hearted human. "He was a full package, from an office boy to a self-assumed chief," mused an old colleague, reflecting on his keenness to maintain the sanctity of the editorial.
"He was KT's guardian of deadlines. The night editor would ask Chacha to nag the laggers to get pages on time," reminisced an old-timer from the production department.
"Chacha was the custodian of KT's Iftar activity. He would skillfully arrange the Iftar feast on the news desk. People would wait until he invited the editor to do the honours," remembered an old colleague who mentioned Chacha in his recent column about Ramadan fasting.
Chacha Patel is survived by two sons and four daughters.
