Over 56 per cent of taxis in Ajman have been fitted with surveillance cameras to ensure passengers' safety, a top official told Khaleej Times. Omar Mohammed Lootah, chief executive officer, operations sector, Ajman Public Transportation Corporation (APTC), said the first phase of the project will be completed in Q1, 2019.
"Installing surveillance cameras in taxis aims to achieve the highest levels of security and safety. Through the cameras, the operations room of the APTC will monitor the drivers' behaviour and ensure their adherence to our standards," Lootah said.
The project is expected to reduce the number of complaints against drivers.
Sara Ahmed Al Hosani, director of the department of excellence and transport permits at the APTC, said the corporation would offer "in-kind" rewards to drivers for excellence.
She noted that the corporation has honoured "several drivers" based on feedback from passengers.
