The Field Control Section of the Department of Economic Development-Dubai has made an inspection targeting a group of restaurants and shops, in order to ensure that traders are committed to the regulations, especially those pertaining to how they promote their services and products.
The inspection came in the wake of a string of complaints against some restaurants and shops, whose staff - as part of promoting sales - were allegedly insisting passersby to visit their shops and have a look at the products or food menus.
Hassan Bonfoor, Senior Director of the Field Control Section, said that the inspectors have booked eight trading shops, whose managers asked their staff to canvas people who pass by the road to visit their shops.
Consequently, the field inspectors warned the managers and staff of these shops and ordered them to abide by the laws without causing inconvenience to the passersby. They have been advised to stop hawking products by calling the public.During the inspection, an unlicensed shop was booked after it was found selling products without approval from the department.
Consumers should buy products from licensed trading outlets and should not deal with street peddlers to avoid being cheated.
Consumers are advised to ask for purchase receipts and compare the name of the shop printed on it with the one displayed on the shop's name board.
Some unscrupulous sellers use the streets to promote fake products. Therefore, consumers must always verify the goods in order to maintain their rights and safety as well.
