Lights, music and exercise blended into one another as Sharjah hosted the Electric Run - the world's brightest 5K experience, a long-distance road running competition over a distance of five kilometres - for the first time.
With support from the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), this unique 5K run combined lights, music and exercise in one fun-filled experience and saw participation of families from all nationalities, ages and fitness abilities.
"We are delighted to have brought the world famous Electric Run brand to Sharjah for the first time," said David Sanderson, race director from event organisers Fast Track. "This is the third Electric Run the UAE has seen, and with last night's great response, it shows how popular this new wave of social fun runs is and the UAE has truly embraced it."

What is electric run?
Electric Run is the world's brightest 5 kilometre night run, combining lights, music and exercise all in one unique experience.
The first of its kind event has made its debut in Dubai on November 6, 2015, at Meydan followed by Abu Dhabi on January 29, 2016, at Yas Marina Circuit, Yas Island.
Sanderson added: "Electric Run is the event for people of all walks of life and provides communities with a platform to engage in physical activity in a non-competitive way."
Electric Runners were encouraged to join in on by lighting up with glow sticks, creative neon make-up, LEDs and anything else their imagination could conjure up. And they were treated to a night filled with energy, live DJs, light installations disco dancers that took them through the 5km route featuring seven themed course lands - Electro Rainforest, Rainbow Road, Teddy Bear Lane, Neffmau5 Land, Colour Brick Road and The Powerhouse. A line-up of top local DJs ended the night with a spectacular end of race party.
Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer - Chief Operating Officer of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, said: "We would like to thank the organisers for allowing us to host such a global event, which truly reflected Sharjah's admired destinations that continuously attract unique sports and entertainment events from around the world."
