Residents will soon start seeing the Abu Dhabi Police in new uniforms. In a strong contrast to the existing green attire, the new uniform in warm-earthy tones, including beige and grey, are. The change, which will take effect from November 21, is divided into various outfits, which depend on the role of the policeman or policewoman.
On Wednesday, Major-General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, the Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, said the new uniform enhances the sense of belonging, while maintaining the security and stability of the Capital's police force.
"The new uniform for the employees of the Abu Dhabi Police is an update of the new identity, which embodies the stages of development and excellence in police work,"Major-General AL Rumaithi added.
He said the selection of colours of the new uniform and quality were carefully designed in sophisticated specifications. Major-General Al Rumaithi added that the Abu Dhabi Police will continue to seek to promote excellence in performance, while maintaining the security and stability of the community.
Major-General Maktoum Ali Al Sharifi, director-general of the bu Dhabi Police, said the new uniform is characterised by special design and appropriate colours to enhance the police's efforts during their duties, pointing out that it has already been tested out to ensure its quality.
Back in July, the Abu Dhabi Police announced that they will be changing their identity, which includes the logo, vehicles and uniform. The new identity came in line with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Abu Dhabi Police.
In September, a ceremony was held to reveal a brand new fleet of blue and white Abu Dhabi Police vehicles, another contrast to the previous deep coloured red and white vehicles.
"The new identity and logo will positively reflect the new spirit of the police personnel, as well as the public - changing it doesn't mean we will change our work," Major-General Al Rumaithi had told Khaleej Times during the occasion.
"We wanted to stand out as a police force with a new identity, which is our own," he added.
With more than 34,000 police officers currently in Abu Dhabi, by 2021 the Capital will have more than 47,500 officers, thus representing one officer for every 58 people - further enhancing the safety of the popular city.
