Engineer Maitha bin Adai, Chief Executive Officer of RTA, said the one-hour exemption would be divided into 15 minutes before the “Adhan” timings and 45 minutes after offering the prayer.

"The hour of free parking will be applicable to all vehicles that are parked in the areas directly adjacent to the mosques and according to the parking regulations."

"The exemption will not cover the areas surrounding the mosques," explained Bin Adai.

She said the new timings will be applicable throughout the year, including Ramadan.

"RTA aims at catering to the needs of the people and ensuring their convenience at prayer times " she added.

The move comes as part of the authority's willingness to respond to the need of providing adequate parking space during prayers.

"The Roads and Transport Authority will continue monitoring the parking space around the mosques to prevent it from being misused by those who park their vehicles for personal uses," warned Bin Adai.

Meanwhile, the public has welcomed the new timings.

"It is a fantastic approach to easing public woes, and especially during Ramadan, the extension of the timings is welcome," said Mohammed Ali.
