If you own a drone in Dubai but haven't quite got around to getting it licensed yet, then here is your chance to get your hands one, free of charge, saving Dh350 in the process.
The announcement was made during Gitex Technology Week by the Dubai Police and Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), who will host the 'Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Forum' next week.
Two hundred pre-registered participants of the forum will be offered free training on the recreational use of a drone as well as a chance to legally register it. Enthusiasts will benefit from a drone training session organised by the DCAA and Sanad Academy, and will also have the chance to legally register their drones. This training will be free for 200 pre-registered participants.
Butti Al Suwaidi, director-general of operations of the Dubai Police, said the forum will focus on the public awareness of the proper use of drones as well as how to go about getting the right permit issued for the use of a drone.
Earlier this year, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, rubber-stamped a new penalty on the misuse of drones, which will see unregistered drone users fined between Dh1,000 and Dh20,000.
