There are two 'Po's, the world seems to love ardently. One is Pokémon and the other is Potter. While many may like both, there are those who would be more inclined towards their favourite Po.
Since Google is the most commonly used search engine, let's dive into the figures they have in store. A quick search on Google trends gives out numbers that might not go well for Potter lovers.
As noticed in the graph, Google Trends suggest that on the internet Harry Potter has been less popular, both worldwide and in UAE. We sure have a clear winner over the internet arena and the winner is Pokémon.
In monetary terms, Pokémon Go has generated a total revenue of $160 million within the first 30 days of its release, as reported by Tech Crunch. The latest book release in the Harry Potter book series - Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - has been the 'fastest selling UK book in this decade', according to a report on BBC.
In UK, the book has hit a record number for sales in its first three days alone - 680,000 copies (previous high was Fifty Shades of Grey that sold 664,478 in its first week after releasing in 2012). There have also been reports informing the book sold approximately two million copies worldwide within the first two days of its launch.
So, while Google Trends suggest otherwise, in reality the book has definitely fared quite well in terms of sales and popularity. On the other hand, Pokémon Go earned itself the official record for 'most downloads on the app store in a launch week ever' (as reported on Tech Crunch). However, the frequent server issues (as experienced by many users) may end up bringing down the Pokémon Go craze down substantially, if not fixed before it's too late.
While there might be a hairline of a difference in terms of the popularity of the two 'Po's, Pokémon certainly seems to have the edge over Potter (as of now). So it's time all the Harry Potter fans start showing some more love to their beloved wizard, in order to keep his charm alive. What do you fancy - Potter's magic spells or you would rather catch 'em all ?
