The Department of Statistics and Community Development (DSCD) has completed verifying the data collected by the Sharjah Census from people living in Sharjah and it continues to receive data from Emirati families abroad. The data check and editing phase included reviewing the records of residents and completing the records of those who did not register at the time of collection because they were either not at home, in another emirate or abroad.
Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani, Chairman of DSCD and General Supervisor of the Sharjah Census, said, "The Sharjah Census Committee has completed the data check and editing of records and information of the emirate's residents to ensure that the data collected is accurate. The final report will be submitted to His Highness Shaikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah for approval.
Shaikh Mohammed Al Thani said the committee is currently working on preparing a detailed report about Sharjah's residents under specific categories according to the directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah. The report will include information on residents, homes, facilities and businesses in the emirate to enable decision makers to develop plans for necessary development.
He said that the process of data checking was carried out smoothly and accurately thanks to the cooperation of government bodies and departments as well as organisations in Sharjah that are strategic partners of the project. Updated electronic programs and modern technologies also eased the verification process, he said.
Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani stressed that the census is important to Sharjah as its results will determine where the emirate needs to focus its social and economic development projects so that all segments of society can progress. The results will also enable government bodies to distribute resources and launch projects that correspond with the population density in each area.
The Sharjah Census 2015 aims to provide accurate and reliable statistical data on the economic, social and demographic sectors of the emirate. The census will provide statistical data for decision makers, officials and investors about the economic, social and cultural life in Sharjah and also comprehensive data about businesses and other establishments in Sharjah to realise with the emirate's current and future needs.
In February, His Highness Shaikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, issued an Emiri decree No.7 of 2015 on conducting a general census of the population, infrastructure, housing and establishments in Sharjah. The census aims to provide accurate statistical data on economic, social and demographic sectors, and others in the Emirate of Sharjah.
The Sharjah Department of Statistics and Community Development is the only authorized statistical body in the emirate and the source of official statistical data, as well as the body mandated with all community development related policies and plans. It is a corporate body with full legal capacity to carry out and direct all works and necessary actions to achieve its objectives.
