UAE universities rank among world's best

Abu Dhabi - The 2019 World University Rankings include more than 1,250 universities.

Khalifa University led the pack of top-performing universities in the country after being ranked in the 301-350 places among the best higher education institutions in the world.
United Arab Emirates University came second in the country tally and was placed in the 351-400 global rankings while the American University of Sharjah and University of Sharjah were tied in third place and were among the 801-1000 top universities worldwide.
Khalifa University is ranked in the 301-350 world rankings together with UK's Heriot-Watt University, University of Connecticut in USA, Boston College, University of Houston, La Trobe University Australia and KSA's Alfaisal University.
The top-ranked university in the GCC was KSA's King Abdulaziz University at 201-250 places.
The 2019 World University Rankings include more than 1,250 universities, making it THE's biggest international league table to date.
According to the THE, it is the only global university performance table to judge research-intensive universities across all of their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
The performance indicators include comprehensive and balanced comparisons, trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments.
According to the THE, the UAE "scored well when viewed through the prism of "international outlook," which is determined by data on the level of international staff, students and cross-border research at each institution."
"Small countries, such as the UAE, that are important global hubs similar to Singapore and Switzerland naturally have the best scores, with Hong Kong taking a noticeable leap forward in recent years," THE added.
British universities Oxford and Cambridge have held their own as the top two spots in the World University Rankings, taking number one and two positions respectively, while US institutions continue to dominate the top 100 places in the list.
Stanford University maintained its position as the highest ranked US institution in third place worldwide, alongside Massachusetts Institute of Technology at fourth, and California Institute of Technology at fifth.
Rounding up the sixth to 10th places are Harvard University, Princeton University, Yale University, Imperial College London and University of Chicago.
Meanwhile, China has led the eastern hemisphere's surge with one its universities becoming the top institution in Asia for the first time while Japan has overtaken UK as the second most represented nation in the table with 103 universities, up from 89 in the previous rankings.
Beijing's Tsinghua University has overtaken the National University of Singapore as the top institution in Asia, after rising eight places to 22nd, representing the greatest rise in the top 30 while NUS dropped from joint 22nd to 23rd, according to the THE.
