The Dubai Crown Prince explored Gitex Global on Friday, the last day of the world's biggest tech event.

"Bright minds gathered in Dubai, where the journey to the future begins," Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said in a tweet where he shared a series of photos.

This year's Gitex Global saw the participation of about 5,000 exhibitors, including 1,400 new companies — making it the largest in the history of the exhibition.

It took its more than 138,000 visitors into the future with its showcase of some of the world's coolest technologies, from flying cars to humanoid robots and gloves that can make you "feel" things in the digital world. Besides autonomous taxis and buses, it also showcased a driverless Cadillac that can take riders on a road trip across Dubai sceneries 20 years ago.

Sheikh Hamdan checked out some of these innovations during his visit. Here's a short video of his tour:

"With the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the emirate has turned into a global platform where ideas and innovations compete to create a better future for the world," Sheikh Hamdan said.

Dubai, he added, has turned into a large laboratory where the best minds come together to address global challenges.

Together with Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the UAE — Sheikh Hamdan saw a number of pavilions including the showcase of G42, a leader in the field of artificial intelligence, cloud computing technology and smart cities.

The leaders also saw the flying car by Chinese company Xpeng, which made headlines earlier this week when its X2 vehicle took its first global public flight.

In a video shared by the emirate's General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) on Twitter, Sheikh Hamdan is also seen exploring the latest technologies for visa services.

During its participation at Gitex, the GDRFA announced that it will soon provide all of its services through facial recognition.

This meant residents will be able to apply for visas and entry permits without having to present their passports or any other IDs. They can easily complete the process without having to leave their homes.

Sheikh Maktoum also visited the Sharjah Government Pavilion at Gitex Global, where 10 government entities are showcasing 15 projects and initiatives at their pavilion.
