Woman dies in horrific Dubai hit-and-run accident

The Dubai Police arrested a GCC national, who fled the scene after killing a woman in a hit-and-run crash, taking advantage of the fact that surveillance cameras had not capture his vehicle's plate number.
However, Dubai Police nabbed the suspect within 12 hours after the incident was reported.

Brigadier Jamal Salem Al Jallaf, director of the General Department of Criminal about a seriously injured woman - lying on the street in Jumeirah 2.

A traffic patrol and paramedics were immediately dispatched to the spot, where they found an Asian woman in her 50s.

The victim was rushed to Rashid Hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

The woman was run over by a car while she was crossing the road from an undesignated spot. Her head hit the pavement as she fell and died instantly - after the car hit her.
The driver fled the scene - leaving behind a part of his Nissan Patrol 4WD.

In a statement issued by the police on Monday, Al Jallaf said that a team was formed to investigate the crime and found a CCTV footage from a nearby apartment complex.
The retrieved footage showed the victim crossing the road near a speed bump as the speeding driver approached her at full speed, without slowing down.

"We were able to identify the suspect after further investigation and arrested him at his residence.
"An on-site inspection of his vehicle revealed that the right side of the front car was seriously damaged and the bumper on the left side had fallen off.
"Accordingly, the car was confiscated and handed over to the General Department of Forensic and Criminology to collect evidence and follow the necessary procedures." Al Jallaf added.

Al Jallaf confirmed that the circumstances surrounding the accident were difficult to investigate due to lack of evidence and information on the vehicle and its owner, except a part of the car left at the scene.
Apart from his car plate number - that could not be captured by the surveillance cameras - there was no eyewitnesses of the accident.

"All drivers must observe traffic rules and regulations, always be attentive on the road, and never escape the scene of accident," Al Jallaf urged motorists.
