A worker, who was left disabled after being run over by a bus, will be getting Dh200,000 in compensation, an Abu Dhabi court ruled.
The Abu Dhabi Civil Court of First Instance ordered the bus driver and the insurance firm that covered the vehicle to pay the Asian worker for the physical injury and the trauma he suffered because of the accident.
The man was on duty at a construction site when a bus transporting workers accidentally ran over him, court records show. Authorities attributed the accident to reckless driving and negligence.
The victim sustained serious injuries, including multiple leg fractures. A medical report said he suffered a 30 percent permanent disability to his right lower leg, and abrasions in the left thigh, left knee and left leg.
Demanding Dh400,000 in compensation for physical and moral damages, the worker filed a civil case against the driver and the insurance firm. The court, however, awarded Dh200,000 payout to the complainant after the insurance company's lawyer submitted a memorandum, requesting a reduction in the compensation.
