A major fire broke out in a factory on Dubai's Shaikh Zayed Road on Monday. No casualties were reported in the fire that was reported around 1pm. The blaze broke out in the Bin Hareb factory that is situated behind Al Futtaim Motors. Black smoke that billowed from the site was visible from as far as Al Khail Road. Fire brigades from four civil defence stations rushed to the factory, where workers were evacuated. Strong winds fanned the fire, officials said. The blaze was brought under control by 1.57pm. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear, with the police saying their forensic department was still investigating. KT camera confiscated Meanwhile, a Khaleej Times photographer who went to the factory to cover the fire had her camera and other equipment confiscated by authorities there. However, she managed to keep the memory card of the camera on which the photographs of the fire were stored. The authorities gave her back the equipment after 15 minutes and asked her to move out of the place. amira@khaleejtimes.com
