The Zayed Giving Initiative has praised the efforts and initiatives of the UAE's founding father, the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in the field of charity work at regional and international levels.
The Zayed Giving Initiative issued a report to observe the 50th anniversary of the accession of Shaikh Zayed as the Ruler of Abu Dhabi on August 6.
The date marks the golden jubilee of "the era full of achievements". Fifty years ago, Shaikh Zayed, equipped with ambition and will, plowed the desert and implanted hope to yield the fruits of coexistence and tolerance in the country.
His name became synonymous with generosity and charity, irrespective of religion, colour or race, making him a symbol of giving and charity worldwide. Shaikh Zayed's deeds also made the UAE a major humanitarian work leader around the world. Over the years, Shaikh Zayed will continue to inspire the whole world for charity, tolerance, coexistence, humanitarian and social work, the report said.
The report included the community and humanitarian initiatives launched by the Zayed Giving Initiative over the past years that put the UAE right on top when it comes to implementing health and humanitarian programmes.
These humanitarian activities helped millions of patients through the Zayed Giving convoys and projects to implement mobile hospitals and health centres around the world. It also highlighted the leading role of Emirati youth in the field of community and humanitarian services, locally and globally, in various international forums through volunteering as part of a unique and innovative model for humanitarian work.
Adel Al Shamri, Chief Executive of the Zayed Giving Initiative, said the UAE has provided a model of philanthropy at the international forums, thanks to the late Shaikh Zayed, who laid the foundations of charity work in the country. He added that the leadership takes great interest in voluntary work to the extent that it has become one of the characteristics of the people of the UAE.
