The Zayed Dialysis Centre in Dubai's Al Twar 3 area is nearly complete, and it is expected to start receiving patients by the end of the year, the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) announced on Wednesday.
Once the centre opens, 30 per cent of its capacity - or 40 beds - will be allocated to charity cases, where patients will be treated for free.
The Dh36.8 million centre is a joint project of IACAD, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF), as well as charities, including Dar Al Ber Society, Beit Al Khair Society and Dubai Charity Association. Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) and Noor Bank also supported the project.
A delegation from IACAD - headed by Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi, executive director of the charitable work sector, and Ali Al Mansoori, director of engineering and medical equipment department, and his team - recently visited the Zayed Dialysis Centre to inspect the progress of the project.
The building's construction started in July 2019 and, now, it is 93 per cent complete.
According to a report by IACAD, 100 per cent of the underground construction works and concrete structure works are done. More than 90 per cent of the exterior and interior claddings and electro-mechanical works have also been completed.
"The project is in line with IACAD's commitment to Article 9 of the 50-Year-Charter launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. It is expected that the centre will start receiving cases by the end of this year," Al Muhairi said.
Besides serving residents and the less fortunate, the Zayed Dialysis Centre shall also boost medical tourism in Dubai, he added. "It will help tourists on short stays in the country get treatment of highest international standards."
A dialysis unit will be built outside the centre. The licensed medical facility will provide services to patients on a regular basis, in addition to dialysis training at home.
