In the spirit of the season, Demoiselle by Galvin at City Walk offers a Ramadan menu that's as satiating as it is value for money
Usually, when a venue presents you with a set menu, you're asked to pick from the list. Not here. The iftar menu here is a package. That means three hot mezzes, three cold mezzes, one soup, three mains, and four dishes - not counting tea/coffee/welcome drink - all for Dh135. If that's not a steal, I'm not sure what is. It's truly fine dining too! The ambience and food were top-notch. Special shout-outs for the shrimps tahina cocktail, baked halloumi, chicken stew and rice, and all four desserts.
Not one starter dropped the ball; even the hummus was a standout. We were too full to truly enjoy our mains, but I thought it said a lot for the Date Chocolate Fondant that my partner finished the last morsel, then put down his spoon, and slow-clapped. Hilarious, but applause well-deserved.
I adored these interiors; they made me silently congratulate whoever envisioned the cosy design: from the wooden floors and diffused lighting to the greenery - and even spa-style washrooms! The only pity were the giant billboards outside that blared audiovisual content at near-insufferable levels.
Service was quite attentive. We appreciated the chef coming over to check in on us, while also explaining how absolutely everything was prepared in-house at the restaurant. Our server too was quite sweet, friendly and acquiescing of all requests.
Don't judge them by these pictures - they don't do the real deal true justice. The food was actually brought out in a variety of serving styles - and very well plated too. Everything was devoured twice: first visually, then, well, in reality.
The restaurant manager admitted they were "taking a hit" with such a comprehensive deal - 14 dishes for Dh135 - but noted it was all in the spirit of the season. Considering the food was excellent, the math did stump us but, that evening, we were happy to just tuck in.
