Ever been in a meeting where an entire strategy is being scribbled on a whiteboard and you’re helplessly trying to keep up with your notes?
Or how about when you need to show a copy of your ID for a bill or setting up a new phone/net connection? Have no fear, these apps will come to the rescue!
Google Drive
In case you weren’t aware, Google Drive for Android actually comes with a built-in scanner that lets you make pdf files, has OCR capabilities so you can search for text in scanned docs, and automatically saves your scanned docs to Google Drive. Very handy indeed!
Genius Scan
This iOS app lets you scan documents and save them with keywords and tags so you can find them later. You can also share these documents straight from your phone over WiFi, or print using AirPrint. The latter option is a paid extra feature, but the free app is very capable.
Office Lens
One of the best free apps on WP8 for productivity, Office Lens plugs into the Office Suite, OneDrive and the ‘lenses’ option on Lumias. It trims, enhances and makes pictures of whiteboards and docs readable, and saves them straight to OneNote — especially great if you can only see the board at an angle.
Cam Scanner
CamScanner helps you scan, store, sync and collaborate on various contents across smartphones, iPads, tablets and computers using your smart device’s camera to take pictures of documents, IDs, bills and whatever you fancy. It even has a neat filtering and enhancing feature that lets you get a clean pdf of whatever you’re scanning. And, it also plugs into cloud storage like OneDrive and Google Drive.
