How do you typically start your workday?
My workday usually begins with a 5km jog and a mental review of the happenings of the day before, along with plans for the day ahead. Most importantly, this has to be done with a positive frame of mind.
What is your favourite thing about your job?
Providing people with joyful experiences that they are able to cherish for a lifetime.
What has been your most challenging experience to date and how did you resolve it?
Performing in a market which is truly over saturated and competing with a lot of people with limited experience in the field. Resolving the challenges by continuing to recruit professional talent who have hospitality at heart. Relying on experience, staying grounded through the highs and always staying connected with the business.
What advice would you give your younger self, if you could?
Take risks a lot earlier in your career! Also, remember that modern world stress only ensures we exist. We need to need to live life rather than just exist!
How do you maintain a work:life balance?
This is a hard industry and one needs to be connected 24x7. You need to have a lot of passion and zeal for the job and there is absolutely no room for complacency.
Any advice for youngsters just getting into the professional arena?
This is truly an amazing industry. It does return hard work with success. Long hours need to be put in - so be prepared and find happiness in creating joy for others.
A fictional character you think would make for a good role model - and why?
I believe that Ananse would be a role model. Also known as Anansi, he is a folktale character who is famous throughout Africa, and beyond, because of his insight, intelligence and wisdom. He is one of the most important figures in the pantheon of cultural icons among West Africans. The lessons of Ananse are social, ethical, and moral and are at the core of most Akan cultural responses to society.
What is your greatest dream, professionally?
To have a deluxe resort in Australia! What more could a man want?
