Saudi Arabia says two police officers have been shot and killed in the country’s east.
The state-run Saudi Press Agency says the shooting happened around 1 am on Wednesday in the eastern region of Al Qatif.
The report, quoting an unnamed Interior Ministry spokesman, says the officers were shot while on patrol near farm fields and that an investigation is underway. Semi-official Saudi media reported earlier that the two officers were shot at a checkpoint in the area, something the Saudi Press Agency did not immediately say.
The shooting comes as the Kingdom has faced a series of attacks by Daesh-inspired militants.
In October, a previously unheard-of Daesh affiliate claimed an attack in the al-Qatif region targeting a mosque that killed five people and wounded nine.
