A couple in Michigan retrieved a lottery ticket tossed in trash and won $2 million (Dh7.4 million).
The husband told Michigan Lottery officials that he gifted a Multiplier Spectacular ticket to his wife for her birthday like he does every year.
But, he added that they certainly did not expect the ticket would win them the lottery prize and the wife scratched it off, thinking it was not a winner.
The man got back the ticket from the trash and took it to be scanned and was stunned to discover it was a $2 million winner. "We don't consider ourselves to be lucky, so this was a nice surprise," the man said.
The couple visited lottery headquarters in Lansing on Tuesday and took the lump sum option of $1.3 million, according to reports in UPI.
