It was a stunning surprise for a Colorado man who had hit a $2 million lotto jackpot but was oblivious of his winnings for a week.
The winner identified as Paul T gave a second look to his lotto ticket only after over week and realised he won. The man had bought the ticket at a King Soopers supermarket in Littleton earlier this month, Colorado Lottery news release stated on Friday.
The winning ticket matched five numbers in the Colorado Powerball on January 11, but the winner from Pueblo in southern Colorado put it away in his pocket. When he took a second look he was stunned to see he had won and said the money will help his struggling family with medical and college expenses.
"His family underwent three major surgeries last year and with a child in college, finances have been stretched for Paul. But not anymore! Paul says he'll continue to work, traveling for work five days a week, until retirement," the release said.
However, the winning also calls for some splurging as Paul said "he may choose a sunny beach to call home".
Moreover, he is not the only one to benefit from the proceeds as the supermarket where his ticket was purchased will receive a $3,000 bonus, UPI quoted the release.
Also, 25 cents from every dollar spent goes to the Lottery's proceeds partners to fund parks and open spaces.
The Colorado Lottery funds the state's park and open spaces and has given more than $3.4 billion back to parks, trails, open spaces and recreation projects since 1985.
