Abu Dhabi: Over 1.65 million animals were vaccinated during the first phase of the sixth annual vaccination drive carried out by Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA).
The drive, which covered the whole geographical area of the emirate, aimed at mainly checking the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in sheep, goats and cows.
Around 648,195 goats were also vaccinated against Contagious Caprine Pleuropneumonia (CCPP) disease the first phase which started in September and continued till November last year.
Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, director of Communications and Community Service Division at ADFCA said 349,379 animals were inoculated against FMD in Abu Dhabi, 370,480 in the Western Region and 931,671 in Al Ain.
He said the second and third phases of the drive, which will continue till the end of April this year, will focus on increasing the immunity of livestock against epidemics with vaccinations against FMD, CCPP Sheep and Goat Pox and Peste des petits ruminants (PPR).
Al Rayssi said ADFCA will extensively conduct vaccination drives across the emirate this year to fill the ‘protective immunity for all livestock’ objective as prescribed by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
He urged farm owners and animal breeders in the emirate to offer complete cooperation with ADFCA veterinary vaccination teams.
