Wholesalers and four charity associations coordinated with Dubai Municipality to facilitate the donation of one million pieces of fruit.
The municipality's Assets Management Department said the fruits will be distributed to charitable Ramadan tents to be served for iftar.
Dar Al Ber Society, Dubai Charity Association, Beit Al Khair Society and the Red Crescent joined in the initiative along with vegetables and fruits wholesalers.
The department's director Khalifa Hareb said an iftar initiative was launched for over 300 workers, security guards and drivers.
He noted that the department is currently holding the annual 'Ramadan Night Market' at the Hamriya market. Festivities include several activities highlighted by a dedicated area for serving traditional dishes such as Luqaimat, Roqaq and Al Khameer.
He added that 47 temporary stands have been set up to sell clothes, accessories, international dishes, as well as phones, accessories and leather goods.
The market with competitions and games for children opens after Tarawih prayers and extends beyond midnight.
