More than 10,000 food outlets have been warned for flouted flouting hygiene rules in Abu Dhabi this year, according to the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA). However, no establishment has so far been shut down.
The authority said that food control inspectors have issued 10,167 warnings to food outlets and issued fines to 169 others since the beginning of the year. The violations were identified during several inspection campaigns carried out on various food establishments across the emirate.
The offences included poor food storage, sell of spoilt food products, operating in poor hygiene conditions, use of non-working refrigerators, poor ceilings, dirty floors, poor ventilation and lighting, lack of health cards for workers among others.
The ADFCA said it is carrying out awareness that involve food dealers and their employees to teach them about the importance of adhering to food hygiene throughout their daily activities.
Outlets caught flouting rules are slapped fines ranging in thousands of dirhams and the spoilt food stuff seized from the food outlets are destroyed, the officials added. They have urged traders to abide by food hygiene laws so as to protect people's health.
